Pamilyas
About
The Pamilya Program acts as one of the primary ways that directly relates to the PSBC mission statement of strengthening the bonds among the PSBC membership. Its main goal is to foster relationships between the different members of all the classes, especially between the upper- and lower- classmen, that last beyond our Boston College years. Our hope is that participants feel like they are a part of a family within the Boston College community and find a new home away from home. Also acting as a mentoring program, we hope that upperclassmen share their advice and sentiments about their own Boston College experiences and backgrounds and make the underclassmen feel welcome, especially freshmen, as they transition into a new time in their lives. Unlike Ate-Kuya/Big-Little programs in various Filipino student organizations in other colleges and universities, we strive to create many strong friendships between diverse members of this organization.
Pamilya Heads
Pairs of seniors agree to become “pamilya heads” and are given a roster of underclassmen whose ages, interests, majors, etc. all vary. There are several required programs that pamilya heads must attend, but the majority of the Pamilya Program takes place at the discretion of the pamilya heads. Pamilya programs range from family dinners to study breaks to lunch dates.
The expectations of the pamilya heads for the 2012-2013 program include:
Seniors who wish to participate in this program but not as a pamilya head may do so by becoming an aunt or uncle for a family. If you are a senior who wants to become a pamilya head (or aunt/uncle) or just want more information, please email [email protected].
How do I become part of a pamilya?
Stop by our First General meeting and sign up to be a part of the program. If you can’t make it, make sure to sign up for our listserv, and we’ll also email the sign-ups soon after our general meeting. If you miss both the meeting and the listserv email, please email [email protected] to be added to a pamilya.

The expectations of the pamilya heads for the 2012-2013 program include:
- It is required to attend Barrio Fiesta in October (Tentative date: Thursday, October 4th).
- It is required to attend Noche Buena in December (Tentative date: Saturday, December 8th).
- Please plan and execute at a minimum of 3 other events per semester (outside of the required events), Some ideas are pamilya dinners, study breaks, etc. Joint events are perfectly fine.
- It is HIGHLY encouraged that pamilyas do something on a regular basis, i.e. monthly or biweekly.
- Please do not adopt children who are already in a pamilyas (no pamilya switching unless extenuating circumstances permit)
- If there is a person who is not already part of a pamilya and approaches your pamilya, you are welcome to adopt him/her.
- With this adoption rule in mind, please be in mind that PSBC will not be responsible for providing any food, gifts, etc. for pamilya events. PSBC will only sponsor Barrio Fiesta and Noche Buena.
- Most of all, be loving, welcoming friendly mentors to these young'ins, YOUR CHILDREN.
